Whether you’re hosting a backyard gathering or just craving something special, these wings are destined to become a new favorite.
Flavorful Tuscan Herb Grilled Chicken Wings for Summer BBQs
Tuscan cuisine is known for its simplicity and reliance on fresh, robust flavors. This recipe brings those principles to your grill, using classic herbs like thyme, oregano, and rosemary. All it takes is a teaspoon of each, along with garlic and onion powders, to infuse the chicken wings with a deep, aromatic flavor that’s both rustic and inviting. Crushing the rosemary with a mortar and pestle before adding it to the mix helps release its essential oils, ensuring every bite bursts with freshness.

The magic of these Tuscan Herb Grilled Chicken Wings lies in the balance of ingredients. Olive oil serves as the foundation. It helps the herbs and spices adhere to the wings while also keeping the meat tender and juicy during grilling. A good pinch of salt and pepper rounds out the seasoning, enhancing the natural savoriness of the chicken. The result is wings that are savory, herbal, and perfectly seasoned—ideal for sharing with friends over a cold drink.
What makes these wings perfect for summer BBQs is their versatility. You can prepare the marinade in advance. Let the wings soak up the flavors for several hours or even overnight. This not only makes the wings more flavorful, but also means less stress on the day of your gathering. When it’s time to grill, you’ll have a batch of wings ready to impress guests with their bold, Mediterranean-inspired taste.
Step-by-Step Guide to Marinating Chicken Wings
Start by prepping your chicken wings. Separate the wing tips, drumettes, and flats; the tips can be saved for making a delicious homemade stock. Place the drumettes and flats into a large mixing bowl, ready to be coated with the herb marinade. This step ensures that each piece cooks evenly and absorbs the marinade more thoroughly.

Next, mix together the thyme, oregano, rosemary (crushed for maximum flavor), garlic powder, onion powder, olive oil, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Stir until the mixture is well combined and fragrant—this herbal blend will be the backbone of your Tuscan wings. Pour the herb mixture over the chicken drumettes, tossing everything together until each piece is well coated. For best results, cover the bowl and let the wings marinate in the refrigerator for at least 5-6 hours, or even overnight. The longer they marinate, the more intense the flavor becomes.
The Grilling is Easy

When you’re ready to grill, set up your barbecue for two-zone cooking: one side hot for direct heat, the other cooler for indirect cooking. Place the marinated wings on the indirect side first, cooking them for about 15 minutes before turning. After another 15 minutes, check that the wings are nearly cooked through. For that final, irresistible char, move the wings to the direct heat and grill each side for 2-3 minutes, being careful not to let them burn. Once done, plate up your Tuscan Herb Grilled Chicken Wings and serve hot for a taste of summer in every bite.
Tuscan Herb Grilled Chicken Wings are the epitome of easy, flavorful summer cooking. With a simple blend of fresh herbs and a straightforward grilling method, you’ll create a dish that’s sure to impress at any BBQ or family meal.
