I love fries, I would even call them comfort food, as a snack, as a side, they’re very versatile. When you add a topping, well, they can almost become a meal. Classic Canadian Poutine really delicious. The only issue is they’re not that healthy, I mean as fried. However, there is more than one way to make fries, and my new way of choice is also using my newest toy. My air fryer, so, read on for air fryer fries, almost a tongue twister, but definitely delicious.
The golden arches make probably the most iconic fries, my kids loved them. Call me a bad parent if you like, but fries are finger food and small children love picking food up, playing with it and then eating it. I’m a big fan of finger food, maybe I never grew up. However, as I get a little older I have to be more careful what I eat. Ingredients and cooking technique become a little more important. Fried doesn’t fit well into my diet.
I found that I could get just as delicious out of my oven. my oven fries post is definitely delicious. However, now I have a new toy, my air fryer. It has advantages over the oven in that it doesn’t get the apartment hot, I live in Florida, that should explain it. Also, it’s cheaper to run the air fryer than the oven, 40 mins at 400 is a while. Now, when it comes to air fryers, not all are created equal. I bought a larger one, big enough to cook a whole chicken, and quite powerful too. I’m not saying this to brag, but to make the point that cooking times will vary, depending on make an model. This will explain why I frequently mention to follow that manufactures instructions when cooking with an air fryer.
Anyway, moving on to the cooking. It’s a simple recipe. Start with a whole russet potatoes cut into fries. I prefer to leave the skin on. The skin gets crunchy during cooking. Also, potato skins are good for you. There’s always the option of buying a fry slicer and passing it through that, they will come out more uniform that way. But no matter how you create the fries, when they are done, rinse and pat dry with a paper towel or kitchen towel. The seasoning is really simple, salt, pepper and olive oil. Put the fries in a bowl and coat. Now put in the basket of the air fryer and set to cook, following the manufactures instructions. I set mine at 30 mins at 400, but they were done sooner, just check on their progress.

Ingredients
2 Medium Russet Potatoes, cleaned, skin on
1 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
1 Teaspoon Coarse Ground Pepper
2 Teaspoons Garlic Powder
Directions
- Cut the potatoes into fries, size of your choice, rinse, pat dry and place in a bowl. Add oil and seasonings, mix well to coat
- Place in the basket of the air fryer, set to 400 degrees for 30 minutes, start to monitor the cooking after about 20 minutes, remove and plate when done
